Prek3 Newsletter 

October 25-29th 

 


 


Hi PreK 3 families, here are some reminders: 


  • The mornings are finally cooling off! Please be sure to label the sweaters that are being worn so we can ensure it goes back with the correct student. Also, please label mass ties, mass sweaters, etc. 

  • Please be sure to send your child with a reusable water bottle with an attached straw that could be closed instead of plastic water bottles with a screw on top. 

  • Please bring in canned goods for our Annual Food Drive! It will end November 12

  • PreK3 goes to the Library every Tuesday, please be sure to bring the book AND the plastic bag it came in back by Monday.

Math

We will be reviewing attributes, and how they help us! We will start attribute classification and how we can use them everyday. 

Science 

Community Helpers are everywhere around us, this week we learn how they help us. The students will discover different jobs and what roles they play in helping our community. 

Religion 

This week we will discuss how God loves each of us, and how he helps us everyday!

Reading/Handwriting/Art 

Community Helpers are always there, and this week we will be reading “Community Helpers” this will help identify different jobs that help others. There are always ways we can help as well at home and school. When we read “Better Things To Do” we will discuss how we can help at home and school just like a community helper does. What community helper job did you child like the most?

  • PreK has their class picture Thursday, October 7th 

  • The church Fest-Of-All is this Sunday, October 10th-sign up for your volunteer hours! PreK is doing the Egg Race, and will need volunteers. Email Mrs. Cowie if you may have any questions. 

  • Please bring in a small pumpkin for your student to use for art class this Wednesday, October 6th.

Vocabulary words:

Math

We will be reviewing shape sorting by size. As we start to discover small,medium, and large we will also start learning about “soft” and “loud” noises. We will do this by filling empty bottles with feathers, rocks, cotton balls, and marbles. 

Science 

As we discover these “loud” and “soft” noises we will predict if it will be a loud or soft sound. Compare and contrast, and conclude our prediction was correct. Each student will record their prediction and conclusion

Religion 

Each week we will name one thing we are thankful for! Last week, we discussed God’s Creation 3-6, this week will continue God’s Creations 5-7.

Reading/Handwriting/Art 


This week we are going to be discussing families, every family is different! The Three Little Bears go on vacation and find someone has been messing with their bows. As we read, we will try to match each bowl to the correct bear, based on size. They go visit Goldilocks and they can not find the right chair or bed to sleep/sit on so we will find out as a class how we can help!

  • Due to limited storage space we ask that each student bring a washable, towel sized blanket.

Vocabulary words: *Wonder 

                                   *Experiment 


Math

We will be reviewing shape sorting, sorting by size and color. Position words will be introduced and discussed (behind, in front, in between, etc.). Each day this week, we will have each child pull 3-4 position words from random and they will have to complete the “obstacle course”!

Science 

This week we will be discussing “curiosity” and what it means to be curious. How do you think scientists are curious? What tools do they use? We will be exploring the world and tools that could help aid us in the curiosity we all have. Magnifying glasses, rulers, flashlights, and so much more will be used this week. What was your child’s favorite science tool? 

Religion 

As we slowly begin to approach the holidays, we are going to acknowledge everything we have that we are thankful for! Last week we discussed God’s Creation 1-3, this week will continue God’s Creations 3-6.

Reading/Handwriting/Art 


Bubbles are such a fun way to begin experiments and explore, when we read “Soapy Scientist” we will predict what could happen when we do the same experiment in class and how it is the same or how it is different. When we start discussing the things we are curious about around us we will refer back to the book “I Wonder”. This book is about what we wonder about, and how everyone has different questions about different things. We will be putting together our very own name puzzles and identifying the letters in our names. In art class, they have been working very hard on creating a ladybug!

Hi PreK 3 families, here are some reminders: 


  • Please be sure to label sweaters,mass ties and water bottles

  • This week we are beginning our NWEA MAP testing until October 1st. 

  • Please be sure to send your child with a reusable water bottle. 

  • When bringing in snack for the class, please ensure you bring enough snacks to divide between 15 students for two days.

  • Due to limited storage space, we ask that you have your student bring in a washable, towel sized blanket for naptime. And starting next week, we ask that students no longer bring all-in-one nap mats.

 Learn Letter:  C

Vocabulary words: Cooperation and Curious 

Math

We will be discussing and demonstrating shape sorting, sorting by size (small and large). Students will go on a scavenger hunt outside, as we find shapes we will mark off shapes we find. As the students sort they will use their attributes to help describe why those shapes are in the same group.

Science

This week we will be using sand to make sandcastles, this will also help build muscles in their hands to help with their writing and dexterity. We will study how certain rocks, porous rocks, make sand. We will introduce predictions, our observations and conclusions. 

Religion

Our first mass as a class was a success! We will still go over mass behavior and begin on Creations. This week we will go over Creation Day 1-3

Reading/Handwriting/Art 


This week we will be reading “The More the Merrier”, Ivan and his friends head to the beach and build a sandcastle. They help each other and work together to build the biggest sandcastle! We will discuss how we can help each other and value each other's opinion even when we disagree. Lastly, we will also be reading “The Enormous Turnip”, this book will teach us how to cooperate together to get things done and as a team. The farmer needs help pulling an enormous turnip from the ground and with the help of his farm friends he is able to accomplish that!

  • Picture Day- Thursday, September 16th these will be individual pictures, please have those forms filled out, and returned by then.

 Learn Letter:  B

Math

We will be discussing and demonstrating color attributes, and reviewing our number recognition 1-5. As a class, we will be doing a shape scavenger hunt, the students will be tasked to describe the shape and color. 

Science 

We often do nature walks for science and discover what is around us! This week we will be using colored cellophane outside and we will discover what colors are produced from the sun and different colors of cellophane. We will use our attributes to help journal what we saw. 

Religion 

This Thursday will be our first week in mass as a class! During class we will discuss proper behavior, Sign Of The Cross and “Our Father”.

Reading/Handwriting/Art 


This week we will be reading “How Do You Feel?” and “Little Red Hen”. Both of these books help express feelings and how we can describe how we feel. Little Red Hen needs help from her friends but some of her friends refuse to help her. We will discover how some words we use might hurt others feelings and we can help others.
